Like Cooper, Warlick draws inspiration from multiple genres, and by inviting Warlick’s faith-based rapping into a soundscape that already includes elements of country, Americana and roots-pop, Cooper underscores the song’s core message of finding strength in each other, as well as in God.

“I came in with the song, ‘Highs & Lows,’ I told Lathan the story of why I wrote it, and asked if he could maybe bring something new to it,” says Cooper. “The remix sounds awesome and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

“It’s an amazing song,” says Warlick. “Matt already killed it on the original, and when he called me for the remix, I had to jump on it because I wanted to explain the highs and lows of life for other people who’ve told me their stories, and I had my own story too.”

The original version of “Highs & Lows,” which has already earned nearly 12 million streams, was a solo write for Cooper, who also produced the track alongside rising Texas-born artist-producer Brooks Huntley. The jaunty, mid-tempo singalong story song was inspired by the testimony of a man Cooper met while attending a grief-therapy class after losing his mother to cancer.

Co-written by Cooper and Warlick and produced by The720, "Highs & Lows (Remix)” retains the original track’s universal, uplifting chorus while replacing its sung verses with Warlick’s freshly conceived spoken verses, which tell new, personal tales of prodigal-son salvation.

Cooper’s original version of “Highs & Lows” has received widespread praise for its powerful message of hope and redemption:

  • Billboard noted the story song’s relatability, saying, “It’s a good bet that most people have felt the same way as one of the characters in ... Matt Cooper’s debut single.”
  • Taste of Country admired how the release “juxtaposes serious subject matter with a carefree acoustic bed track and an instantly hummable melody.” The outlet also named Cooper among its “RISERS: 2026 Artists to Watch.”
  • CountryLine lauded Cooper as “One to Watch” and praised “Highs & Lows” for tackling a difficult topic, saying, “There’s a lot of people out there who this will resonate with.”

Cooper, who has amassed more than 1.7 million social media followers, continues to organically grow his nationwide fan base. This Wednesday night (2/25), he will open for Kameron Marlowe at a sold-out show in Chicago (resale tickets HERE).
